Ellen Hopkins




Ellen Hopkins was born on March 26, 1955. She was adopted by Albert and Valeria Wagner. Later in her life Ellen found her mother Toni Chandler who was a writer and poet. Ellen believes she got her writing skills from her mother. Hopkins first started writing non fiction childrens books, she has published twenty non fiction books. Hopkins had a daughter with a lot of potential before her addiction to crystal meth. In 2002, her additon inspired Ellen to begin writing her New York Times best selling novel, Crank, which was meant to tell people about the horrible influences of drug abuse and addiction. She has published several novels on teenage struggles, including Crank, Burned, Impulse, Identical, Glass, and Tricks. Glass is the sequel to Crank. Identical came out on August 26, 2008, and Tricks, about teen prostitution, on August 25, 2009. Hopkins has her own unique way of writing, most of her storys are written in a different form of poetry where she tells a story but also gives a good meaning. Her books appear to be long but theres not many words per page and there an easy read for young adults to anywhere older.
