The Normandy Landings: A Brief Overview

The invasion of Normandy during World War 2 was on of the largest and a very well planned invasion that occured on June 6, 1944. It is known as the largest amphibious invasion to ever occur. The invasion was done by allied forces of Normandy including Canada, the UK,the US, and then was later joined by others. It was a joint effort to help to bring down the Germans. It was a combined attack of air warfare and amphibious warfare.

D-Day was a big day because it helped us free the French from the Nazi Germans. Many things wouldnt of been made possible if it weren't for the commander of the Allies "Dwight D. Eiesnhowser The attacks included overnight parachute and glider landings, massive air attacks, naval bombardments, early morning amphibious landings on five beaches codenamed Juno, Gold, Omaha, Utah, and Sword. D-Day took months of preparation for the armed forces. The battle started June 6, 1944 and ended on May 9, 1945. The war was slow paced and lasted around 11 months, almost a full year. The Normandy Landings had an estimated total of 110,000 casualities on both sides of the war.

D-Day was very important because if it had not occured The Cold War would of turned out much different as would World War 2 if the Allies lost battle at Normandy. After D-Day the Germans finally surrendered on May 22, 1945 to officially end World War 2.
